Assembled here are the best Oppositelock posts from Monday and Tuedsay. Today we've got Tesla's fight with New Jersey, a resurgent Toyota, "17,000 calories and a Ferrari 458 do not mix well" and more.

If that headline were real protestors would come crawling out of the woodwork and burn New Jersey to the ground. Why? People who love Apple, love Apple stores. And while the headline might be false, the idiotic thinking behind it is very real. And sadly, more and more common thanks to dealership profits lining the pockets of politicians.

Alright, it's truth time, kids. For years, Toyota has been my least favorite car maker in the history of everything. But lately, I've started to have a change of heart. It's strange. It wasn't too long ago that, on every internet forum I'd participate in and at every chance I had in person, I didn't hesitate to stand behind the Snap On brand pulpit and vociferously preach my disdain for Japan's biggest automaker. Say what you want, in my defense I consider that a result of obtaining a driver's license in an era when almost every Toyota produced was about as exciting as watching your grandfather take a nap and every bit as appealing as spending a week between the sheets romping around with the norovirus.

When in Italy it's safe to say that you may start to binge on food. Everything there is better. The wine, the cheese, holy god what the fuck is this, this is not the salami I know, this is….this is ridiculous, why have people not been importing this?! Ok so you get the idea, food is essential in Italy. What else is essential in Italy? Ferrari. There are Ferrari t-shirts, hats, and all sorts of expensive merchandise with a Ferrari sticker on it. Ferrari is practically the national brand of car…if everyone didn't drive FIAT's. What they don't tell you, while in Italy, is you need to be very careful mixing these two essentials, especially if you're a larger person like I am at 6'4" 220lbs.

I am not one of those people who tries to live their life through the lens of a smartphone camera as so many others tend to do. Admittedly, I do take pictures of my carpentry projects for Instagram to share with that community, but I don't take selfies or pictures of my food. For the most part, I don't often take pictures of other people's cars either unless for a humorous reason.

When the Air Force started looking for a new dedicated ground attack plane in the late 1960's, they first polled pilots of the venerable Douglas A-1 Skyraider who flew attack missions in Korea and Vietnam. Then they looked at the Ilyushin Il-2 Sturmovik from WWII, and the Henschel Hs 129, nicknamed the Panzerknacker (tank cracker). The Air Force determined that the ideal aircraft should have "long loiter time, low-speed maneuverability, massive cannon firepower, and extreme survivability." The A-X program would search for a new plane to fit these criteria.

Two years ago I made an automotive decision that most people would call me insane for doing. I may be insane, but I knew what I was getting into. I extensively researched the car, the brand, and all of its history before getting one of my own. So what kind of car could possibly command scientific levels of research before making a purchase? How crazy am I? Well, I got a Smart ForTwo.

Caught you out on this one didn't I! Best of Europe with a Japanese manufacturer? OK, so you might think I'm cheating a little bit here, but 'Best of Europe' for me covers anything made here, or sold here but not sold in the USA. The Swift Sport is the latter of those two, and let me tell you; for the price you pay, this car is unbeatable. You need to know about this car. Cars.com is worth $3B?! I'm not very surprised. Here are a few notional reasons this isn't as crazy as it sounds. Granted, it all comes down to money-in vs. money-out, but here are a few thoughts I had on the matter.

Something weird has been happening lately. Every car I drive has been affecting me. I never considered myself a "Corvette-guy" but this new Stinging Ray has got me. Got me good. And it's not just the 'Vette; I've also been driving a lot of Subarus, and really liking all of them, which is weird because I don't own any beanies or have a chain attached to my wallet.

Welcome to this post - Part one of a one part series to explain that while the Vanagon may not be up to modern standards, it's safer than you think. This subject has popped up dozens of times over the years on the multiple message boards I post to. I want to get a Vanagon, but my wife says they are death-traps. Is it true?

The Mitsubishi Starion/Dodge Conquest/Plymouth Conquest/Chrysler Conquest was a line of 4 cars built in the 80s by Mitsubishi in Japan - rebadged for Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler to confuse everyone. It was the Japanese version of a pony car and combined a turbo-4, 5-spd, rear wheel drive and LSD for classic fun. Also check out !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Last night I downloaded over 1 million complaints from NHTSA's ODI database. Then I started making graphs. For the first graph I pulled all complaints for MY2014 vehicles, 829 in total. Then I subtracted any complaints related to trailers or motorcycles, applied a unique count of each model name and graphed them, highest to lowest (above). As you can see Jeep Grand Cherokee complaints outnumber the second highest vehicle, Honda CRV, almost 3-to-1.

Maybe one of the finest examples of the "fora-de-séries", the MP Lafer was a fiberglass replica of the MG TD. Initially thought by Percival Lafer to be exported, it was only sold in Brazil. As the Gurgels, Pumas, Miuras, Cintras and many, many others, the MP Lafer was built over a VW Beetle chassis with its powertrain. However, since the original MG TD is almost the size of the Beetle, it wasn't hard to project a fiberglass body to fit the VW chassis.

With design language filtering from the Opel Monza concept we saw at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, this Autocar sketch of the future Vauxhall Astra twists our heads around from the boring Vauxhall/GM we are used to thinking of.

Hear ye! Hear ye! Come one, come all to the opening round of Formula Oppo! This is THE fantasy F1 competition. The Australian GP is the first F1 race of the 2014 season. There are many rule changes this season which may shake up the established order of a Seabass winning all the damn time. Most of all of the cars have dildos grafted on to the front for deeper penetration safety. The power plants are all new turbo charged 2JZ V6 motors with hybrid systems mated to all new 8-speed transmissions. The cars carry less fuel than last year, so the cars are essentially Toyota Pri.

Technical innovation is what makes Formula 1 so different from any other form of racing. The on track action is as much played out by the engineers and aerodynamicists as it is the drivers. We are here to admire, study, and discuss this beauty that exists on the ragged edge of what we think is possible, or at least what we thought was possible.

The 660cc genre of vehicles are becoming a global thing. Especially in the Asian countries and possibly all those places where taxes are insanely high so a car whose engine displacement is smaller, will be inevitably cheaper to buy while keeping the green house fanatics happy too.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with replica's, but for Singer's sake, don't try and pass it off as factory options. This 1972 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe replica may be the most irritating example of misleading dealerships I have seen in a while.

Was down in St. George this weekend for work and play and I thought I would start the process of getting the family ready for more overlanding adventures. I would like to eventually do an over nighter, then a few days, leading up to a week long overlanding trip. The thing is, I knew I had to start small so instead of taking the wife and kids down on some 60 mile rock crawling adventure, like I could do with just me and the oldest kid, I decided to keep it tame and do a scenic backcountry route that could have been driven by a Honda accord, although slowly.

Protesters would never burn New Jersey to the ground, the fumes would be too toxic.
